Wet weekend? Stuck in the city? Go gorge at Sofitel’s Pondichery Café

cold meet and smoked salmon

The Pondichery Café at The Sofitel BKC is one of my most favourite places for a fabulous buffet meal of international standard. We visited on American Independence Day for the dinner buffet and found the hot selection and desserts had a nice American selection. The name cards had US flags on them and our table was adorned with a mini Tricolour and Stars & Stripes!
The soup of the say was corn chowder! Quite yummy. We paired it with prawn crackers!
seafood on ice - our favourite

The sushi and cold meat counter (includes Italian salami, smoked salmon among others) is always a draw for me. The extensive array of salads raw and cooked veggies with a multitude of dressings would make a veggie person’s heart sing!
The piece de resistance for me is the seafood on ice – shrimp, mussels, squid and fish. Cooked and ready or eat – though sauces can be added.

freshly baked bread- note the oven

The breads are always freshly baked and quite satisfying. Its nice to see the bread counter with its very French-inspired wide selection.
The hot selection had several American styled mains – grilled fish (delicious), roast chicken, pot roast (beef) with several sides including the very American Mac & cheese, and a most delicious savoury pumpkin pie! Had 3 slices!
As always, there was biryani, kababs and rotis, and a full Jain and vegetarian selection.  (never tried the Indian vegetarian – must be good as the hotel has a pure veg. restaurant)
The Malaysian section had a veg and non-veg offering with a delicious Malay styled rice. You can also get prawn, calamari and /or chicken sautéed with Oriental sauces. We loved the Malay food, and my son enjoyed the sautéed calamari.
You can get pizza and pasta made to order as per your choice.

some of the American themed desserts (see the flag!)

For dessert there is an ice-cream selection – my son’s favourite. There’s also a wide array of western and Indian desserts.  I enjoyed the Florentine. This is the place which introduced me to the Financier and hooked me to it …..

Cheese selection

Lots of cheeses and fruits to choose from if you want to avoid the sweets.
Ever since we discovered this buffet, we visit often…..with all of us getting to eat our favourite foods – smoked salmon, sushi, seafood, Italian salami, cheese and dessert!
Its good value on weekdays – lunch and dinner, no alcohol.  On Sundays and public holidays it’s a brunch with alcohol and the cost is higher.

Presently a 15% discount for Citibank and Otters card members! Go soon!
