Read about my first
and fabulous visit on a budget, thanks to Jaiwana Haveli, Udaipur: Cheap & Cheerful meets
great location with a nice buzz
We found this place
by researching Tripadvisor http://www.tripadvisor.in/Hotel_Review-g297672-d545796-Reviews-Jaiwana_Haveli-Udaipur_Rajasthan.html Ranked at #5, it’s the only non luxe hotel in the Top 5 in
Udaipur.
A basic and clean
hotel quite lovely, a stroll away from the City Palace and by the banks of Lake
Pichola.
Family run, with
simple, clean and well kept rooms and modern, attached bathrooms. Some of the corner rooms on the lower floors
and the 3rd floor rooms have lake views.
I stayed in a corner
room with a lake view. The room cost Rs
2650 plus tax, without breakfast. The room had TV, AC and the bathroom had hot
water (you need to put the water heater on). The bathroom had new, good
fittings (rain shower!), the room was simply but aesthetically done. Good
bedside reading lights. No dressing table or desk – but as one is out all the
time is wasn’t missed. The rooms looked
freshly painted and were very clean.
The rooftop
restaurant which has a wonderful lake view was buzzing not only with residents
but other tourists too. The cuisine was Indian, Rajasthani and Western. Value prices.
It was good to see both Indian and foreign tourists frequent the place.
Good service with a
smile. Harsh, whose family owns it, provided us with helpful tips. We used
their airport pick up and drop service.
A word of caution –
there is no lift so you need to use the stairs. Walking up to the restaurant on
the 4th floor was good exercise, allowing us to work off the delicious local cuisine we
over-indulged in.
We booked it online,
so it was very convenient.
I would recommend it
to people visiting Udaipur. All that a tourist wants with good food too at
great value pricing.
