Le Dupleix, Pondichery - lovely heritage property

The Courtyard for al fresco meals

It was our 1st visit to Pondichery and after searching Tripadvisor we decided to stay at Le Dupleix. It looked good, was a heritage property, and had great reviews.

We arrived late in the evening and I was some what dismayed at the size of room for husband me and 12 year old son for our 3day visit. Ideal for a couple but not a family!

However the hotel was full so nothing could be done! Though I raved and ranted the manager didn't lose his cool and told me he'd sort out my issue ASAP ie when people checked out! Apparently I hadn't chosen carefully while booking which I'd done online.

The 1st floor verandah

2nd floor rooms - contemporary

Ground floor bedroom - our friends stayed here

Having said that we were offered a choice of 2 larger rooms the next day at no extra cost!

So we settled into a large room with a bed for the boy on a higher level. It was very spacious and we enjoyed our stay in it,

Our twin balconies had chairs to sit in and watch the world go by.

Each room was different -our group of friends had booked several rooms so we got a chance to see 5!

All rooms are beautifully done up with individualised decor -each room has balconies or large windows. Some with lots of wood panelling which does make the room dark but gives a really heritage look.

Definitely the property has a lot of character and the service was good and with lots of smiles

Breakfast was included and was good but I'd like to recommend dinners there! Great French style food ensure you reserve as it was always full -seemed to do 2 sittings every night!

You can eat al fresco in the courtyard -think candle light, potted palms and the sound of the fountain or in the dining room in air conditioned comfort. I'm afraid we chose to eat in air con comfort in the dining room!

Between us we ate French style seafood, pork and beef all good. We had Indian snacks -kababs with our drinks pre dinner in one of our rooms -while waiting for a table on the 1st night!

The bar there was good doing great cocktails - it offered a wide range of beverages.

Evenings saw a nice happy buzz in the restaurant cum bar!

Le Dupleix is well located to walk around the French quarter and to visit the promenade -where we enjoyed evening walks.

Great shopping and restaurants nearby also the samadhi of Shri Aurobindu and The Mother.

No elevator and a climb of some 4-5 steps to reach the ground floor.

All rooms have AC, there is no pool here
